Scarecrows celebrate 18th reunion

Twenty-eight entries, including at least twice that many scarecrows, ghosts, ghouls and various other creatures, are on display until Oct. 17. This annual event, featured in the September issue of DownEast Magazine, is a definite must-see.

Blue ribbons and $25 cash prizes were awarded in five categories. First place awards went to Celeste Reid’s “A Mum for My Mummy” in the children’s category; Ginni Robie and Star Barn Yoga, whose “Mr. Mazza attempted this pose in 1997 and has been trying to get out of it ever since,” adult group; Brenda Wilcox, Jenna Osgood and Cole Bailey, whose scarecrows were “Just Duck-ing in” to the reunion, family; Dana Dudley’s unique metal sculpture, adult; and Phillips Elementary School’s 6th Grade “Ghoul School,” youth group.

Second place red ribbons were awarded to Girl Scout Troop 1531 in the youth group category; Rick Osterhout, adult; the Wyatt Sieminski family, family; Maine School of Masonry, adult group; and Geneviene and Skyela Burgess, child.

Abram HeadStart (Braden, Evan, Dakota, Lachlan, Daisy, Hannah, Annika, Emily, Jamie, Lily, Hope and Aiyana), youth group; Suzy Sander and Barb Field, adult; Sally and Sibyl Stevens, family; “Suzy Tatas” of Healthy Community Coalition, adult group; and Senna Reid, child.
