STRATTON — Reed & Reed, Maine’s largest wind power contractor, donated much needed recreational equipment to the Stratton Recreational Department at a ceremony held at the Stratton Elementary School last month.
The recreational department requested funds from the company for new equipment so that the children in the area are better served. Representatives of Reed & Reed stepped up and went shopping in order to fulfill the request and to provide the community’s youngsters with a range of toys such as new dodge balls, nets, Frisbees and toys.
Recreational Director Cheryl Heikkinen was on hand to accept the generous donation from the lead contractor of the Kibby Wind Power Project. “We are very grateful for this gift. Thanks to Reed & Reed, about 90 children, ranging in age from 5 to 12 years old, will benefit during next summer’s popular Rec. program. Our recreational opportunities have expanded over the past several years. Thanks to the generosity of companies like Reed & Reed, we have what we need to prepare for next year’s fun and games.”
Jackson Parker, Reed & Reed’s CEO, welcomed the chance to honor the children of the area when he heard there was a need at the Stratton Recreational Department. “Reed & Reed has really enjoyed being part of this community during the construction of the Kibby Wind Power project. We’ve gotten to know many terrific people in the area, some of whom have energetic children in the schools and who participate in the Recreational program. We fully support a healthy lifestyle with plenty of time for fitness. After all, Reed & Reed builds clean, renewable wind power projects, and we believe that wind power is the best option for our future energy needs,” Parker said.
Reed & Reed is nearing completion of the TransCanada Kibby project. Last year, the company also built Maine’s largest wind power project, Stetson Wind. “Reed & Reed is building the bridge to Maine’s energy future, which is wind power. Every time we build one of these projects, there is a boost for the local economy. Wind Power offers Maine a long lasting promise for a cleaner environment. That is something that will benefit all of our children and our grandchildren,” Parker noted.
Reed & Reed of Woolwich is one of Northern New England’s largest general contractors and also builds bridges and other essential infrastructure. The company was founded in 1928 by Captain Josiah W. Reed and his son Carlton Day Reed and is in its fourth generation of family ownership.
