Baxter State Park topic of talk

FARMINGTON — Maine Audubon is hosting “A Visual Tour of Baxter State Park” on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m., in Room C23 of the Roberts Learning Center at the University of Maine in Farmington. This program is free and open to the public.

Chaitanya York, Friends of Baxter State Park Board member and popular Maine humorist, will present a slide show of “The Park” featuring views of Kathadin, other mountains, lakes, ponds and streams, trails, flora and fauna. Attendees will also hear about the parks’ history and organization.

According to organizers, York is an exciting speaker, entertainer and Maine humorist. He has appeared for years as “old tima” Henry Bascomb but also has 28 years’ experience with natural resources and organizational development.

York has hiked many of Baxter’s trails and paddled its ponds and streams. “The Maine Woods was my daycare center where my woodsman grandfather took me starting when I was three years old, and where I first embraced wildness,” York noted.
