Roadrunner’s rally to win

SALEM -– Mt. Abram goalkeeper Josh Beedy kept his team in the game making some tremendous saves against Mtn. Valley last Friday night.
He tallied nine saves on the evening including a second half direct kick which sent him horizontal to make the stop.
The Falcons (6-5-1) led the game with a deflection off the post which deflected to an open striker. Dylan Mawhinney was able to find the back of the net.
Mt. Abram tied it when mid-fielder Ian Daly fed Coulin Logan in front. Logan drilled the ball on net so hard it went through the overhead hands of Falcon keeper Kyle Gauvin.
Mt. Abram (7-4) out-shot Mtn. Valley 13-11 on the evening and Gauvin also played a great game in net for the Falcons stopping nine shots.
The second half proved to be the game difference. Senior striker Jim Barker made a beautiful cross to feed Daly with an open look. Daly, on the drive made two touches as he approached the near post and shot to the far side past the left of the keeper for a 2-1 lead.
That goal proved to be the game winner in this evenly played contest.
Later that day the junior varsity Mt. Abram club continued its winning ways and easily defeated the Mtn. Valley squad as the rain threatened the play.
Mt. Abram, 5 — Carrabec, 0
NORTH ANSON –- Last Tuesday, Oct. 6 the Roadrunners made easy work out of a game against a young Carrabec team in a MVC action.
Ian Daly opened it up to score the first unassisted goal follow by Kenny Moir for a 2-0 lead in the first half. Senior Jim Barker was credited with the assist.
Moir then reversed roles by feeding Barker in the second who scored one of his two goals on the day. Joey Lampron was credited with two assists in the game.
His final assist was a pass to Parker Kennedy who found the back of the net in this shut-out win. MTA outshot the Cobras 14-3. Sophomore keeper Josh Beedy had a quiet afternoon making just two saves for the win.
Mt. Abram traveled to Telstar on Tuesday and the final home game of regular season play is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 16 against Jay. A trip to Dirigo the following Monday will conclude the Roadrunners’ regular season. They were sitting sixth in Heal Point Standings as of Monday.
