Library on track

2009-11-04

The log structure at the entrance to the new Carrabassett Valley Public Library & Community Center is hoisted into place last week. Two of Lynward Doble’s carpenters, Mike and Rose Reid, were responsible for building this part of the structure, which was constructed at Doble’s yard, disassembled, transferred to the library site and then reassembled there. The piece pictured is estimated to weigh about 15,000 pounds. According to Jean Keith, a library committee member, the committee is delighted with the work done by Doble and crew thus far and is especially thankful that this huge signature structure designed by architect Dick Reed was safely raised into place. “It was an awesome, coordinated process of the crane, two front end loaders and all the workers,” Keith said. Andi DeBiase, CV Librarian and another member of the building committee, said they expect the building will be done by the holidays and that the opening to the public is projected for late January 2010. There is a Facebook page should anyone wish to track the project’s progress or check out its very beginnings — search for Carrabassett Public Library.
