13, 1978 Vol. 11, No. 15 issue
of the Sugarloaf and Rangeley Lakes Irregular.
The Carrabassett White Water Race, it was announced, was still scheduled to run “come **** or high water.” In fact, the little news brief went on to say, “Actually, it’ll take hell to melt the ice on the Carrabassett.” If the ice had not gone out by race time, spokesperson Wendy Frutchy said the race would be run from the Kingfield dam to the Wire Bridge. It usually ran from Packard’s Pool to the State garage.
Another little news brief reads, “We here at the Irregular are not the only ones who have nightmares about the paper. We just found out that Frank Taylor has been losing sleep due to the Irregular. His nightmare is that people are stealing all the Irregulars right after they come out. In his dream he was chasing them.”
The old Rangeley schoolhouse building,
built in 1912, was in the process of being torn down so that a town office building could be built on the site.
Kern’s Inn in Eustis changed hands. Ralph and Doris Lalemand, of Auburn, took over from Mr. &
Mrs. Mahlon Glidden, who were returning to
Palermo.
The Frozen Logger in Kingfield was closing for business and offering a Surf ‘N Turf special: fried scallops, sirloin strip, potato and salad or vegetable for $5.50.
Saddleback was offering free skiing on April 18 and 20 percent off weekend tickets to anyone holding a season pass to a closed ski area.
“In between seasons what do you do for excitement?” asked the caption to the photo below left. “You drag a house down Main Street! (Pictured is) one of two buildings being towed to Dodge Pond where David Lanzo will relocate them. He plans to operate them as housekeeping units.”
