Author visits KES, throws pajama party


Maine children’s book author Lynn Plourde visited Kingfield Elementary School recently as part of Literacy Night. The author started the day off with a whole-school assembly and read one of her books out loud and then invited a few students to act out “Pigs in the Mud.” Plourde then worked in grade level groups during the day using her books as catalysts to motivate students to take their reading further. At night, the school hosted a Pajama Night where parents and students came in their pajamas to their classrooms and engaged in various activities. Plourde then read “Pajama Day” to the audience, and then did a play based on “Moose, Of Course,” which was, according to one attendee, “pretty hilarious.” After that there was a book swap with milk and cookies —all in the name of literacy. The organization of the Literacy Night and Plourde’s visit was set up by Robin Chase and other teachers.
