MAINE — Both the Mt. Abram girls’ and boys’ teams were eliminated from any further post season contention last week after a good season in the Mountain Valley Conference. The boys, after much debate, traveled to Wiscasset on Thursday and lost 3-0.
That debate had to do with the large number of Wiscasset students absent from school; a few with confirmed H1N1 pandemic virus and the remainder with flu-like symptoms.
The Mt. Abram girls went to Hale-Dale and they also fell to the home team by the score of 3-0.
In the girls’ division in Western C, Hall-Dale was eliminated by losing to Georges Valley 1-0 to go to the regional finals. Fourth ranked Waynflete shut out Sacopee 5-0 who had made it to the finals after taking out the number one seeded St. Dom’s team earlier in the week.
Today, Wednesday, Nov. 4 Georges Valley will face Waynflete to take on the winners of the Fort Kent-Orono game in the Eastern C regional final game. Winners advance to the state championship girls’ game on Nov. 7.
The boys of North Yarmouth Academy advanced to the regional finals by defeating Georges Valley 3-2. They’ll face St. Dom’s who took down Wiscasset in a shut-out 2-0 win.
Meanwhile, of interesting note, Class C East has produced its two regional finalists this year in the boys division. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams from Fort Kent and Orono have made it to the regional finals.
In Western D girls’ action, Rangeley’s season ended when they lost to Richmond in the semi’s by the score of 4-0. Based on the number of teams in Western D, the Laker boys did not advance to compete in the post season tourney.
