Voters reject reorganization repeal
AUGUSTA -– Good turnouts were seen at the polls on Nov. 3 and voters took positions on seven referendums.
The controversial repeal of the reorganization law was favored by nearly 52 percent in Franklin County but shot down across the state. Towns within Franklin County were split; those facing the $130,000 fine for not reorganizing tended to vote “Yes” while those not facing the fine (for various reasons) voted “No.”
Repealing gay marriage was approved narrowly state-wide and agreed with in the county by a 60-40 vote. Carrabassett Valley, Coplin Plantation and Farmington were the only communities in the county to vote down the repeal.
A plan to reduce excise taxes was shot down by voters as was TABOR II.
