Frank Magnussen
He was born in Aardal, Norway, on March 3, 1926, the son of Karl Magnussen and Lina Magnussen (Bohn), and later moved to Notodden, Norway where he grew up. In 1946, he served as a Lieutenant in the Norwegian Army and was in the British Contingent in Hocster am Wiser and Bronezweig, Germany. It was there he graduated first in his class of 400 participants. Upon completion of his military duty he attended Nottingham University, United Kingdom, where he studied textile chemistry.
Frank married Ellen S. Tangen from Fossum, Telemark, Norway in 1952. They had two children, Linda and Erik Magnussen. They lived in Quebec, and various Eastern States in the U.S., where he held a variety of textile manufacturing positions. In 1972, they bought a property in Sandy River Plantation and the family enjoyed vacationing there for years. Frank and Ellen retired there on the pond in 1984. They both loved the area around Rangeley because it reminded them of Norway. Frank spent his time working in his blacksmith shop, fishing, cross-country skiing, and keeping himself busy working on a variety of projects
Frank is survived by his wife, Ellen Magnussen of Sandy River Plantation; daughter, Linda Magnussen and son-in-law, Gary Link; and three grandchildren, Kristin, Sarah and Anders Link, of London, U.K.; and son, Erik Magnussen of Greene.
