Elizabeth Chenard, baritone sax (left to right); Thomas Faraday, trumpet; Colin McCarthy-Edwards, alto saxophone; Liam McCarthy-Edwards, trombone; Victoria Crockett, flute; Ayla Haines, trumpet; Emily Hardy, vocal; and in the back, Staci Plog, clarinet (not pictured is Ellen Brooks, vocal) all auditioned with over 1,000 junior and senior high school students from the Kennebec Valley Region for placement in either junior-senior band or junior-senior chorus. The auditions, which took place Oct. 29 in Pittsfield, required extra hours of practice to prepare for their performance. Each student prepared a solo piece as well as making sure they understood the rudiments of music. They then performed their pieces alone in front of an adjudicator. The auditions were followed by Chinese cuisine together with the very patient bus driver, Adrah. (Contributed photo)
