Door-to-door food drive set in the Valley

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — On Saturday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 6 p.m., the students and staff of Carrabassett Valley Academy will be traveling doorto door to collect canned food and dry goods to help feed needy families in the area during the rest of the winter.

They will be canvassing areas in Kingfield and Carrabassett Valley. Last year the community donated 1,008 food items and $153. This year the group has set an ambitious goal of 1,500 food items and $200 —all to help those who will face “bare cupboards” this winter without this assistance.

For almost 20 years this door-to-door drive has made a significant impact on the food reserves at local food banks. “The generosity of this community is well known throughout the county. Thank you in advance for your giving hearts this holiday season,” the Rev. Pam Morse at Sugarloaf Area Christian Ministry said.

The United Methodist Economic Ministry of Salem will distribute the food as the winter progresses.
