Plaque highlights flag donations
STRATTON — In June of 2008 the Flags over Flagstaff project was started with 24 flags donated by the Coles Museum of Bangor that were matched by local people who donated toward the project.
Recently, the names of those who gave a flag were engraved on brass plates attached to a plaque that was placed on the wall at the Stratton-Eustis Community Building. The plaque was donated by the Flagstaff Area Business Association.
The flags this year, put up by volunteers, flew from Wyman Township to Jim Pond Township on Route 27 and then up Route 16, said Sue Fotter, chairman of the Flags over Flagstaff Project.
Fotter added that 44 of the flags were donated by TransCanada —one for each of the 44 wind turbines erected at Kibby. Boy Scout Troop #525 from the Sugarloaf region took down the flags this year.
“We still need more flags,” said Fotter, and anyone who wishes to pay $45 for a flag in memory of a loved one can contact her at Fotter’s Market.
