CARRABASSETT VALLEY — It’s time to get started thinking about what you can do in this year’s 10th annual Sugarloaf Charity Summit. The summit starts off early with a new event beginning a month earlier on Dec. 30.

The Sugarloaf Charity Summit has raised over $950,000 for Maine charities in the last nine years. All proceeds benefit the Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center at the Franklin Memorial Hospital and the Maine Cancer Foundation. All proceeds raised at Sugarloaf stay in the state to help with the local cause.

Warm up your racing skills this season in the first ever Warm Up for the Summit or come and enjoy a delicious cookout at the Jean Luce Competition Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 30.

Fundraising will jump out of the gates early with a fun dual slalom race on Lower Comp Hill. Challenge your friends, family members or compete for the best time of the day in this timed event that will conclude at the Jean Luce Competition Center. To race, register at the Jean Luce Building beginning at 9 a.m. for just $5 per participant. Or see how you fare in the gates against U.S. Ski Team Member Ben Morse who is said to be among the crowd as well as regulars such as Amos and Blueberry.

“This is open for all ages from five or six to 100 years old and we hope to see some challenges,” said event co-chair Bruce Miles. “This is a family fun event and we’re hoping to see the Sugarloafer community come out and enjoy some good racing, good food and at the same time support us to help raise money to find a cure for cancer.”

The cookout is sure to be a crowd pleaser with grilled burgers, chips, drinks and the Sugarloaf Ski Club’s signature whoopie pie for desert. The cost for the meal is just $10.

“Having the Warm Up for the Summit on Dec. 30 is a great addition to the Sugarloaf Charity Summit,” said event co-chair Martha Bradley. “It provides an opportunity for Sugarloafers to race in a fun race, all while donating to wonderful causes. In addition we hope Sugarloafers enjoy the BBQ on the hill and are reminded that the Sugarloaf Charity Summit is coming on Jan. 30.”
