SALEM -– A late Redskin surge sank the Roadrunners in a match-up which had given Mt. Abram hopes for their first win last Friday. However Christmas did not come early for head coach Mike DeRaps and his Roadrunner program.

Mt. Abram looked like a 4-0 team with the buzzer sounding to end the first quarter and was ahead 19-5. MTA maintained the margin in the second quarter with a 13-point lead as the boys hit the lockers. The momentum somehow stopped over the next 16-minutes of play.

Mt. Abram coach Mike DeRaps was forced to sit 6’ 4” sophomore center Tyler Hupper in the third with four fouls.

The Roadrunners were outscored in that quarter 17-11 which was the start of a momentum swing for the Redskins.

With 4:21 remaining in the final quarter, Wiscasset tied the game at 43. Wiscasset took the lead by three points, but a fade away jumper from Jarrod Blood and a Joey Lampron three-pointer that bounced off the rim twice and fell for a one point MTA advantage.

The lead switched back and fourth, but Redskin possession gave their team the advantage for the lead after the scores tied and consistently forced MTA to answer.

Jim Barker tied it from the line going 1- for-2 with 1:35 remaining. Again, The Redskins jumped ahead, but Barker went through a sea of traffic to knot the game at 51. He then tied it again at 53 with a fade away jumper with 35 ticks to go.

The possession went back to Wiscasset (2-3) and they stalled with hopes of ending it on their end at the buzzer. With 10 seconds remaining a Redskin guard became wide open under the net for twopoints and MTA (0-5) called time-out with 7.7 clicks to go.

In two attempts an off balance MTA shot came up wide and the Redskins walked off with the narrow two-point win.

Barker had a team high 19 points including three treys. Blood scored a quick nine points in the first quarter and 15 on the night including going 3-for-3 at the line.

Lampron added 9-points in the effort.

Wiscasset’s Cody Griffen scored a game high 21 points that evening.

There junior varsity boy’s did not have a game that evening which featured two varsity games of the girl’s and boy’s.
