Shuttle service continues from Kingfield to ‘Loaf
KINGFIELD -– Representatives of the Kingfield Recreation Department and town officials remind its residents that the Sugarloaf Explorer shuttle service is continuing this week and for the winter season.
During this Christmas vacation and over February vacation, the shuttle runs every day of the vacation weeks. The shuttle also continues every weekend for the balance of the skiing and riding season.
The intent of the town-sponsored and privately sanctioned program is to provide a service to assist families, Sugarloaf employees and others looking for public transportation as a means of convenience, environmental benefit and as a cost savings measure.
Originally conceptualized by the KRD and Sugarloaf and supported by the Sugarloaf Ski Cub, the intent was also to enable more kids to get out more often and enjoy winter recreation, understanding that some kids’ desire to hit the slopes exceeds the parental rides provided to them.
It was also the groups’ combined intent to see more Kingfield area children participate in the many youth season-long programs offered by Sugarloaf, CVA, school team programs and other local recreation clubs.
Along with the Kingfield taxpayers, many other organizations and corporations have stepped up to assist in the financial responsibility to make this a free service for shuttle riders. This year, Poland Spring Water Bottling Company, they have taken the role as the lead sponsor of this year’s service.
The Sugarloaf Explorer, thanks to the Keoskie family, leaves the parking lot of Grand Central Station at 7:30 a.m. in route to the mountain. A returning shuttle leaves the base lodge at 3:30 p.m. on each day of service. The returning skiers, riders and others using this service returns to Kingfield at approximately 4 p.m.
In its fourth year, donations to continue making this a free service and a service for years ahead are always being accepted. Contact the Kingfield town office or rec. dept. to see how to be of assistance or for answers to any questions.
Organizers are asking riders to be respectful of the service and the property owners who allow the service to continue at its present locations.
