Abram’s Aaron Jalbert, left, scored a game high of 16 points in last week’s JV game at Carrabec. (Heidi Murphy ph oto) NORTH ANSON -– Mt. Abram boys’ junior varsity basketball team delivered with a fierce comeback before falling to the Cobras of Carrabec on Monday, Jan. 21.

“It was a hard fought comeback attempt for us,” says JV coach Jordan Norton.

The MTA team was missing ball handler Kennan Dock that evening. Aaron Jalbert ran the point position and did a terrific job for the Roadrunners, Norton said.

Jalbert recorded the game-high 16 points in the contest. On the other end, Brandon Lemay put 14 on the board for the Cobras.

MTA’s Cody Espeaignnette started the game and played a solid game as a guard.

In the comeback attempt, MTA built momentum late in the third quarter with some key plays.

“Jake Thomas had a great rebound and put it back up for two, getting fouled along the way. He finished off the three-point play at the end of the third quarter to give us a jump to start the final quarter,” Norton said.

“Roadrunner Robert Rivers came up with a huge threepointer to start a run where we took the lead in the early fourth quarter,” Norton said.

MTA had trouble with turnovers once again; this has been plaguing the team this season but they are getting better as time progresses, the coach explained.

Also contributing, Norton said, were Jamey Howard who put up eight points and Parker Kennedy who was MTA’s leading rebounder with nine boards.

Also strong in the paint was Cameron Hannah who had six boards off the bench and whose intensity lifted the team.

“Everyone on the team understands their roles and it makes it easy as a coach that the players are helping each other out and willing to do whatever it takes to improve and succeed at the high school level,” Norton said.

Cobra Dylan Price put up 12 points for Carrabec that evening.

The MTA JV team will be home against Telstar on Jan. 4 and then travel to Madison on Jan. 6. Both games have a 5:30 p.m. start with varsity games to follow.
