NORTH ANSON -– “It was a terrific game,” said Mt. Abram boys’ varsity head coach Mike DeRaps. “We just got snake-bit in the end.”
The Roadrunners and Cobras played a thriller which ended in Carrabec’s Aaron Lane’s jumper to win the game with 10 seconds remaining. MTA could not answer in the final few clicks.
The game featured MTA’s Joey Lampron who was red-hot in the final half draining three three-pointers as part of his 17- point night.
With 20 seconds remaining and down by one point, Mt. Abram’s Alex Shaw picked up his own rebound and sank a two-pointer for a one-point lead.
Lane’s late game rebuttal could not be answered in the final clicks as a shot did not drop for Mt. Abram.
Mt. Abram fell short of another game where they competed well throughout the game, but lost by a very small margin.
“I think the kids are definitely playing better then they were,” DeRaps said. “We have some games ahead that we can definitely win. It may just come down to one foul shot, a rebound not grabbed or a missed lay-up. In all these tight games, that’s what the difference is.
Roadrunner Jim Barker led his team in scoring with 18- points followed by Lampron with 17 and Jarrod Blood with 10.
The game high scorer for Carrabec was Lane with 22 points followed by Justin Richardson with 15 and Nick McCarthy with 13 on the night.
Carrabec hit five three-pointers to MTA’s four buckets from outside the arc.
The boys’ varsity club will play a scrimmage against Jackman on Dec. 30 at MTA to prepare for the second half of the regular season. The varsity game starts at 3 p.m. which follows a girls’ JV game that day at 1 p.m.
The boys’ varsity and JV clubs are home with a MVC match-up with Telstar on Monday, Jan. 4 with a 5:30 JV start. The two teams then travel to Madison on the following Wednesday.
