Chansonetta book reissued
KINGFIELD — The Stanley Museum recently announced the release of the Centennial Edition of “The Old Table Chair” by Chansonetta Stanley Emmons.
Originally self-published in 1909 and long out-ofprint, “The Old Table Chair” is a photo essay of life in rural Maine at the turn of the 19th Century. Illustrated by the artist’s photographs and line drawings, this volume provides a unique glimpse of rural life as the artist saw it. Chansonetta Stanley Emmons (1858-1937) was an exceptionally talented photographer who labored in obscurity as many of her striking images went unpublished during her lifetime.
The new edition is illustrated with black and white photographs and reproductions of Emmons’s own handcolored lantern slides.
An all-new historical introduction takes a detailed look at the only book of photos Emmons published during her lifetime. For the first time, several of the artist’s own delicately hand-colored lantern slides are reproduced for comparison with the striking silver prints of her original vintage images.
This 28-page photography book is perfect bound in landscape format using durable paper chosen to match the style and color of the original as closely as possible.
The Centennial Edition of “The Old Table Chair,” ISBN 978-1-886727-14-4 (paperback), is available for only $11.95 directly from the Stanley Museum, PO Box 77, Kingfield, Maine 04947, 265-2729, maine@stanleymuseum. org, and electronically via shop.stanleymuseum. org. It is also distributed by Itasca Books.
