Members celebrate Christmas

Eunice Farnsworth-Ruth Heald Cragin DAR

MADISON — Members of Eunice Farnsworth-Ruth Heald Cragin chapter met at the Selectman’s Meeting Room at the Old Point Facility the morning of Dec. 12, for an impromptu gathering to celebrate Christmas. A regular business meeting was not held.

A brief memorial service was conducted for deceased member Ruth Ellis Houghton who passed away Feb. 10. Houghton had been a member of the North Anson Ruth Heald Cragin chapter for about 45 years; and continued on as a member of the Eunice Farnsworth-Ruth Heald Cragin chapter after the merge in June of 2008. She was always eager to attend meetings as long as someone would provide transportation for her. Houghton had served as Vice Regent of Ruth Heald Cragin chapter for two consecutive terms, serving until the merge.

Memories of childhood Christmases were recalled, and a few very old toys were on display. Following this, the members had a gift swap, a cookie exchange and pictures were taken before the members left.

Members were reminded that there will not be another business meeting until Friday, March 12, 2010. The March meeting will be on Friday instead of Saturday to accommodate the Good Citizen students and their parents and faculty members who may wish to attend the awards ceremony. A notice will be published in the papers prior to the meeting concerning the exact time of the meeting and the following ceremony. Every effort will be made to get a newsletter out to the members as well.

Officers of the chapter met at the home of the regent, Kathy Palmer, on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 10 a.m. to fill out the Master Questionnaire. Other members were not required to attend.

Members expressed their desire to wish Happy New Year to all of the DAR members, families and friends.
