SALEM –- The Ladies of the Mt. Abram varsity squad might want to forget about last week as they dropped three Mountain Valley Conference games for a record of now 1-10.
On Wednesday MTA hosted Mtn. Valley in a make-up game after last Saturday’s snow.
A late three-pointer by MTA’s Dani Smith showed hopes for a comeback, but was not enough to overcome in this low scoring game.
The first quarter looked promising with a two-point MTA advantage leading 9-7. Troubling for them was a three-point second quarter followed by just one point in the third. A 12-point surge in the final quarter, which was game high scoring effort by either team, was not enough to stage a comeback.

Mtn. Valley’s Ayla Allen had a 12-point night which was hard to overcome.
MTA freshman center Miranda Smith had a team high eight points, followed by Kylie Rolbiecki with five and Heather Campbell and Dani Smith with four a piece.
In JV action MTA fell to Mtn. Valley 31-25 earlier that day. MTA had a 15-11 halftime lead and maintained the advantage in the third. But a 12-4 fourth quarter run for the Falcons was too much for the Ladies who settled for a loss.
For MTA Sam Werzanski was the team high scorer with 7 points followed by Taylor Henderson with six and Mykayla Luce with four.
In varsity action, Mt. Abram traveled to Madison (6- 3) on Thursday, Jan. 7 and suffered a 45-26 loss to the Bulldogs.
Rolbiecki tried to rally the troops leading her team with 12 points. Amanda Richards was second in scoring with five including one three-pointer and Jill Howard had a great opportunity to fill in the paint and scored four points.
The Dirigo Cougars visited Mt. Abram on Saturday and in a well-played game the Lady Roadrunner were faced with another loss. However freshman Miranda Smith impressed with 17 points on the night and classmate Tori Beane had nine points, all from outside the arc.
Mt. Abram inched within five points half way into the final quarter before falling to the Cougars 51-42.
The girls’ varsity team traveled to Livermore Falls last Monday, Jan. 11 and will be at Lisbon on Thursday, Jan. 15 for a 5:30 start. The Lady Roadrunners will return home on Monday, Jan. 18 for a game with Jay at 2 p.m. followed by a boys’ varsity game at 3:30.
