CARRABASSETT VALLEY — On Dec. 16, members of the New Building Committee presented the final amount owed to the Town of Carrabassett Valley toward the building of the new Public Library & Community Center.

Taxpayers of Carrabassett Valley agreed at the May 2009 town meeting to fund the construction of the new structure, and the New Building Committee committed to raising $375,000 towards that goal. The Capital Campaign began in 2007 and continues. The committee has thus far raised a total of $533,978.

The Grand Opening of the new building will be Feb. 6 from 3 to 6 p.m. The public is invited. There will be a brief ribbon cutting at 3 p.m. followed by refreshments and a chance for all to tour the building.

The new structure houses the library, a community room, and a rental wing occupied by Western Maine Center for Children which provides child care for local parents.

This building was made possible through the collaboration of CNL, the Boyne family, CVA, Carrabassett Valley taxpayers, the Recreation Endowment Fund, the library board, the board of WMCC, several grants and hundreds of individual donors.

“The committee is tired, but elated, and hopes that the community will come out to enjoy the Grand Opening on Feb. 6 at 3 p.m.,” a spokesperson for the group said.
