SPORTS & Five from CVA qualify for Winter X Games

CARRABASSETT VALLEY -– Winter X-Games return to Aspen, Colo. where the top athletes from around the world compete in an assortment of winter sport venues. Skier Superpipe and Boarder X will have a Carrabassett Valley Academy and Sugarloaf presence with five of the Academy’s alumni set to bring their A game to the 14th X Games.

In skier halfpipe, Winter X veteran, Dan Marion CVA drops into Aspen’s Superpipe for his 5th time. No stranger to the top 10 list at Winter X qualifiers, Marion has shown consistency in this season’s Winter Dew Tour. Part of the early movement in freeride skiing, Marion continues to push the limits of the sport in competition and filming. This year Marion welcomes fellow CVA alumni, Matt Duhamel CVA and Banks Gilbert to Winter X Superpipe.

In Boarder X action, Seth Wescott challenges the Winter X field for the 14th year. Decorated with six X Games medals, experience is on his side. Nineteen yearold, Alex Tuttle qualified to ride in Winter X 14 Boarder X, but he’s elected to compete in NorAm action in British Columbia.

Practice in the Superpipe kicks off on Thursday, Jan. 28 and continues on Friday. Qualifiers are on Saturday and finals begin on Sunday at 7 p.m. EST.

Snowboarder X qualifiers are on Friday, Jan. 29 and finals are on Saturday at 4 p.m. EST.

In X Games history, 10 Carrabassett Valley Academy students and alumni have qualified for the X Games.
