Morse, Cochrane MARA Qualifier Race winners
Next to Chief of Race Jeff Hawksley are the top four JIII Boys (left to right): Henry Townsend (2nd), James Marshall (3rd), Sam Morse (1st), and Ian Wilson (4th).
RANGELEY — The Gray Ghost Trail at Saddleback was the venue for the Maine Alpine Racing Association Qualifier Race on Monday, Jan. 18. It was snowing throughout the day.
Saddleback’s race organizers received numerous comments because the Gray Ghost Trail had been widened, making it a very interesting and appealing race trail.
The Chief of Race was Jeff Hawksley of Saddleback’s Alpine Training Center, and the Technical Delegate was Jim McCormack of the Sugarloaf Competition Center.
The overall winners were Sam Morse of Carrabassett Valley with a combined time of 2:08.24 and Czari Cochrane of Carrabassett Valley with a combined time of 2:11.69.
This event is one of a series that helps qualify competitors for season-end events. For the JIIIs, the seasonend events are the JIII Olympics and JIII Finals and for the JIVs the season-end event is the Future Stars.
The next MARA race at Saddleback will be another MARA Qualifier on Jan. 31.
