A comment on recent public meeting on wind power

2010-02-03 / Letters

To the editor:

When I read the article in a previous issue of the Irregular about the meeting held in New Portland (“Community dinner packs plenty of concern over wind power,” Jan. 20, 2010), I had to chuckle reading Peter Politician’s negative comments about wind power.

My mother always told me, “Don’t believe anything you hear and only half what you see.”

I attended the meeting, and what I saw was very transparent. I have worked for many years in the construction industry; miles of pipeline laid, highway construction, all including erosion control. If we had left a mess like the ones in the pictures we were forced to look at, we would have been made to clean up the project or face huge fines. I wonder if the environmental engineer that was presenting these photos was the one in charge of these projects. If so, why she didn’t do something about it?

I will say that I don’t dare comment on noise pollution. I am trying to make my wife think I can’t hear, especially when she wants me to do something.
