PHILLIPS -- Coats and hats and bags, Oh My... "Wow!" doesn't describe the feeling one gets looking at the recent donations to the mid winter fundraiser for the Phillips Public Library, note event volunteers.
Twelve years ago it started at Phillips Hardware and was billed as the Chinese Auction. Four years ago it outgrew the space at the hardware store and was moved to the library building on Main Street. That year an E-mail criticized the library for the name "Chinese Auction" therefore it was changed to the Penny Sale Auction, referring to the tickets that are purchased by that name.
It has continued to grow no matter what it's called or where it's held. More people are bringing boxes of items as their way of helping the library. Not everything is suitable for the auction so they are tagged and sold on a separate table. This also grew and last year a huge indoor yard sale preceded the auction.
Again, this time with the donation of so many coats, hats and bags, the group of volunteers have set a special time for a sale. Feb. 3, 4, 5 and 6 the items pictured here will be on sale.
The coats are mostly large sizes, some men's and the rest women's. Some of the labels in the coats are: 77 Originals New York, Woolwrich, Bromley Sport, Ed Hardy Christian Audigier, Polo Ralph Lauren, Pelle, Burton, Kanji Jeans, Pops Leather, John Ownbey and Together West.
The Indoor Yard Sale is set for Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
March 7 at 1 p.m. Penny Sale Auction commences. Ticket sales stop at 12 p.m.; all tickets are purchased in advance. Penny Sale Tickets are sold 25 chances for $1 and are on sale now until the drawing.
The library hours are Wednesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Donations of items are accepted until March 1; the contact person is Winona Davenport at 639-4296.
