Town report in distribution
KINGFIELD -– Administrative Assistant Doug Marble said the town’s six-month budget is now complete and this Kingfield Town Report is now in distribution. The report was created internally at the town office to save money and is now at area businesses and available for pickup at the town office. The report will not be distributed to individual homes.
The report is out in time for the Annual Town Meeting on Saturday, March 6 for voters to discuss and approve.
The 12-page report is a shorter version than a regular town report, which will become available before the new “official” town meeting this summer. The shorter version pervades a transition into the new fiscal year voters approved last year.
The fiscal year change will move town business from a calendar year to a fiscal year that will begin on July 1 and end on June 30.
“The (six month) budget is for basic municipal services from Jan. 1, 2010 through June 30, 2010,” Marble said in the report.
He mentioned that a tax bill for the six-month period should be one half or less than one half of a normal annual bill and will be mailed this spring. Tax bills will also be due in the spring, he said.
Marble notes that no homeowners will be making more tax payments than they currently make.
“The six-month tax payment will be due in the spring. This fall when you would normally pay a full year’s tax, only one half of that tax is due. Your total tax payments in 2010 will be about the same as you would pay in given year. This begins the process of implementing two payments for a single tax bill,” Marble said.
