RANGELEY — The new RSU #78 School Board had its first organizational meeting Feb. 24 at the Rangeley Lakes Regional School. At the first meeting, the board elected Ginny Nuttall as the Chairperson and Barbara Burgess as Vice Chairperson.
The new board voted on organizational items on the agenda including establishing a quorum and voting procedures. It adopted the Rangeley School Board Policy manual and will review all policies prior to assuming responsibility for the district on July 1. The board also appointed Brian Foster as Superintendent of the RSU.
The board then agreed on a calendar of meetings for the remainder of the school year. The RSU board will meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the RLRS Multi Purpose Room. The regular Rangeley School Board meeting will continue on the same 2nd and 4th Tuesday, but the meeting will start at 5:30 and end by 7 p.m.
In final business, the board voted to make the official name of the new district, Rangeley Lakes Regional School District. An official name is necessary in order to change such documents as deeds, financial records, titles and other district records. The school will continue to be called Rangeley Lakes Regional School.
The Rangeley School Board, Dallas Plantation School Board, Sandy River Plantation School Board, Magalloway Plantation School Board and the Union #37 School Board will cease to exist on July 1.
The next meeting of the Rangeley Lakes Regional School District will be Tuesday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in the Multi Purpose Room at RLRS.
