Mountain Misbehavior

WESTERN MOUNTAINS — Following are summaries of some of the local law enforcement agencies’ and emergency services’ activities last week.

Carrabassett Valley Police

According to Police Chief Scott Nichols at the Carrabassett Valley Police Department, a photograph run this past week in the Original Irregular of a young man taking a ski jacket from the Sugarloaf Ski Shop recently has still not produced the identity of the thief, but officials are still hopeful that someone will come forth with the identification.

In other crime at the resort, Chief Nichols, Lt. Randy Walker and Cpl. Rod Small responded to a complaint of an attempted suicide and rendered first aid to the victim until the rescue team arrived.

On Saturday, due to the three feet of snow that fell on the area, traffic was restricted to one lane due to the heavy traffic and slushy conditions on the Access Road, Lt. Walker said.

Officer Tom Cummings assisted Franklin County Deputies with a traffic stop, investigated a theft complaint, assisted a stranded tractor-trailer and charged a Massachusetts man with Operating Under the Influence.

Cpl. Rod Small investigated a missing child complaint, conducted traffic control on Bigelow Hill for a stranded motorist during this week’s storm.

Officer Todd Lamb responded to a dog complaint, a medical emergency and a reported chimney fire.

Officer Kelly Leet responded to two 911 hang-ups, two loud party complaints, a reported fight in progress, a disorderly person complaint and assisted NorthStar Emergency Medical Service personal, along with Officer Tom Cummings, in transporting an intoxicated belligerent female to the hospital.

Officer Wally Spencer investigated a traffic accident, assisted a stranded motorist in the snow storm and responded to a 911 hang-up.

Officer’s had 231 requests for service this past week which included 23 unlock complaints, seven citizen assists, four parking complaints, 25 fire alarms, five low temperature alarms, 17 burglary alarms and two property checks.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Department

Franklin County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers sent deputies on Feb. 19 to Saddleback Mountain Road in Sandy River Plantation to investigate lost property, issued a summons on Route 4 in Phillips, issued a summons on Route 4 in Sandy River Plantation and made an arrest on Main Street in Kingfield.

On Feb. 20 deputies investigated a car/deer accident on the Salem Road in Phillips, responded to a call of domestic violence on the Parlin Road in Phillips and assisted another Agency on Route 27 in Coburn.

On Feb. 21 deputies made a transport from County Way in Farmington, investigated an attempted burglary on Depot Street in Wilton, responded to a report of smoke on Ski Slope Drive in Jay, investigated an accident on Route 27 in New Vineyard, responded to a call of harassment and stalking on the Clover Hill Road in Farmington and a theft on the Seamon Road in Farmington.

On Feb. 22 deputies responded to a fire call on Route 4 in Rangeley, a criminal trespass complaint on Main Street in Wilton, issued an arrest warrant on County Way in Farmington, investigated a charge of theft on the Swan Road in New Sharon and responded to a call of a chimney fire on the Cape Cod Hill Road in New Sharon.

On Feb. 23 deputies responded to a complaint of criminal mischief on the Fairbanks Road in Farmington, a complaint of debris in the roadway on the Fairbanks Road in Farmington, issued a summons on Route 27 in New Vineyard, and responded with a K9 unit on Route 2 in New Sharon.

On Feb. 24 deputies responded to a fire call on the Anson Valley Road in New Vineyard and investigated a motor vehicle accident on Route 2 in West Wilton.

On Feb. 25 deputies investigated a 911 call on Hillside Drive in New Vineyard, responded to trees down on utility lines on the Reeds Mill Road in Phillips, investigated a motor vehicle accident on the Fairbanks Road in Farmington, responded to an accident on the Farmington Road in Strong, a car accident on Court Street in Farmington, a car accident on the Starks Road in New Sharon and another vehicle accident on the Town Farm Road in Farmington.
