Students visit the ancient world

Kaitlyn Cowan and Fresca Pray, students in Mrs. Savage’s Ancient World Studies at Carrabec High School, learn about China, Korea and Japan. Using brushes and ink, the class learned to write simple Chinese characters, and then found how the written languages of Korea and Japan developed from written Chinese. They learned about Confucianism, Taoism, the Great Wall of China and the Terra Cotta Warriors. At the end of the unit they enjoyed trying on silk kimonos and other clothing from Japan, and sampling the food of all three cultures. A grant from the Oak Grove Foundation provided funding for the food.
