Rowland skis US Nationals
CARRABASSETT VALLEY -— Amie Rowland returned from this year’s US Alpine Championships with a few more notches in her already impressive list of accomplishments.
A senior at Carrabassett Valley Academy, Rowland placed 4th in slalom among junior racers, second for US juniors at Nationals in Lake Placid, N.Y. at White Face. She had the 11th fastest time overall in her second run.
While traveling to races throughout the east and Canada, Rowland also keeps her eyes on her schoolwork. A fourth-year student at CVA, Rowland received an invitation to enroll at Harvard University next fall.
“Amie’s results show that she continues to take care of the details required to be successful in the classroom and in this sport,” according to Head CVA Women’s Alpine Coach, Martin Gray. “She skies a lot —often on her own— works hard in the gym and excels in the classroom. Furthermore, she’s extremely coachable.
“Things were starting to really click for Amie when she returned from Junior Olympics her sophomore year. She kicked off last season with an Eastern Cup win. This season she was on the podium in a number of FIS races and she posted solid finishes at NorAm races prior to heading to White Face. Her results at Nationals illustrate her abilities.”
Rowland is the daughter of Mike and Cheryl Rowland of Wyman. Her sister, Jenie, is a freshman at CVA.
