Baseball season begins
SALEM –- Coming off a very good preseason, the regular Mt. Abram baseball and softball season is now underway.
Baseball coach Ryan Palmer will have to decide his pitching rotation with three games coming over the next five days. Taking the hill on any given day will be senior south paws Aaron McGinness and Tim Smith. Also likely to see some hurling time will be sophomores Josh Beedy and possibly Parker Kennedy.
The Roadrunners will host Jay today, April 28 in baseball and softball action with the season opening first pitch expected at 4 p.m.
Look for Smith to lead things off at the top of the lineup followed by the explosive bats of McGiness, first baseman Hank Poulin and catcher Dylan Tisor.
Molly McCafferty will lead her team from the rubber and is expected to pitch a strong game against Jay on Wednesday. On the left side of the defense, look for seniors Jillian Withee to defend at shortstop and Kylie Rolbiecki in the hot corner.
Rolbiecki’s speed, drag bunts from the left side and slap hits will likely lead her off in the lineup.
Head coach Jeff Pillsbury said that McCafferty has been hitting the ball hard and into play and the ball has been exploding off Withee’s bat as well. You may see these Lady Roadrunners as the one-two-three top of the order.
On Friday, April 30, MTA will travel to Madison for a game with the Bulldogs. The Roadrunners will return home for a big game with Dirigo on Monday.
