Swim lessons, water exercise offered

CARRABASSETT VALLEY –- The youth swim lesson session will be offered for the two weeks preceding the 4th of July (June 21 to 25 and June 28 to July 2). The cost for 2010 will be $70 for both weeks, a $5 reduction from 2009. Levels 1-2 run for 30 minutes and levels 3-6 run for 45 minutes. A minimum of 4 children per level are required.

Instruction will be provided by certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructors Sam Wright, Liz Stefany, Erica Luce and Jess Eames. One-on-one lessons are offered throughout the summer for your convenience, youth and adult students are welcome.

Water exercise will be offered again by Alison Thayer of Peak Performance. Classes are open to participants of all fitness levels and will be on Tuesday evenings from 5:15 to 6 p.m. and Thursday afternoons from 12:15 to 1 p.m. No prior experience necessary —just show up. Start date TBA.

Adult swim lessons will also be offered this year by Liz Stefany. The lessons will be offered over 10 weeks on Wednesday evenings starting on June 23 and running through Aug. 25. The class will run from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. and will include 45 minutes of instruction and 15 minutes for practice lap swim. The cost is $8 per lesson or buy all 10 weeks up front for $64. The lessons will focus on students’ personal goals, such as improving efficiency, endurance and/or comfort in the water.

The pool is a heated facility with adjacent restrooms and changing area. Picnic tables and playground are available for family use at no cost.
