MSAD #58 budget meeting rescheduled

By David Hart Irregular Staff

SALEM — Andrea Adams, the MSAD #58 superintendent’s secretary, said last week that the district public hearing on the 2010/11 budget scheduled for Tuesday, May 25 was rescheduled due to an error found on the warrant articles. The meeting will now be held June 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Mt. Abram High School.

The errors had to do with the wording of articles. The wording suggested that the hearing was “open,” meaning district residents could vote an article up or down and increase or decrease any line item. The school board voted in the past to make this a closed public hearing, meaning a line item cannot be increased and programs cannot be restored.

The board met Monday, May 24 for an emergency meeting to sign the warrant. The warrant must be posted one week in advance of the public hearing to notify its residents.

The district referendum vote date has not changed and will be June 8 during the primary election. The referendum will ask voters to approve the actions taken during the public hearing.
