ATV clubs to open trails May 28

Carrabassett Valley, Flagstaff Area

CARRABASSETT VALLEY — The ATV clubs responsible for trails in the Carrabassett Valley and Flagstaff areas have announced that their trails will be open for riding starting Friday, May 28.

The openings include about 185 miles in the Flagstaff Area ATV Club and 25 in the newly-formed Carrabassett Valley ATV Club.

According to Dick Smith, trailmaster for Flagstaff, and John McCatherin, secretary-treasurer of the Carrabassett Valley club, a drier than normal spring has left the trails in good condition for this early in the season. Initial maintenance has taken care of blowdowns and other obstructions and trails should all be passable.

“Both clubs have been in touch with landowners and have received permission to open in time for the Memorial Day Weekend,” according to McCatherin. “We would remind all riders to remain only on marked trails at all times and obey all ATV rules and regulations.”

If there are any questions, or if anyone wants to join either or both clubs, contact McCatherin at johnmccatherin@ tds.net or at 235-2121, or Smith at dooer@tds.net or at 246-3201.
