CARRABASSETT VALLEY — For the first time in over 10 years the former Sugarloaf Area Chamber of Commerce building will be open parttime assisting tourists who travel up Route 27 in search of summer activities from Kingfield to Eustis.
Lorna Nichols, Executive Director of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, said that the satellite chamber-operated building, across from Ayotte’s Country Store, will be open right now on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
“Once we get more volunteers to come man the information center, we can be open more hours,” said Nichols.
Anyone interested in giving a couple hours a day, especially on weekends, is asked to call the chamber at 235-2100 or in Farmington at 778-4215.
Among the many brochures at the center is the new 84-page Welcome Guide, “hot off the press” and filled with beautiful photographs and interesting places to see and where to eat in the area.
John Beaupre, co-owner of Ayotte’s, said recently that he was glad to see the information service open again. “Our store has kind of been doing that service for many years.”
Beaupre served as the last president of the Sugarloaf Chamber in 2000 and said that after the reservation service was sold to Sugarloaf/USA the local chamber just dissolved.
