Violinist visits KES

KINGFIELD — Bangor Symphony Orchestra violinist, Simon Bilyk, visited the Kingfield Elementary School fourth grade last week. The children in the class had written letters to Simon asking him many questions about the violin, his training and experience as part of the orchestra.

Bilyk first participated in the violin class taught by Graybert Beacham, the MSAD #58 violin teacher. He played with the students in response to Beacham’s instruction, played for the students and told them about the history of some of the pieces he played.

In the classroom following the music class, Bilyk answered the questions the students had written to him as well as many more. According to Kathy Houston, fourth grade teacher, the children thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Bilyk and learned a great deal.

The visit was part of the PenPal program of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and was sponsored by the Kingfield POPS.

Donald Tranten, President of the POPS, participated in the class, asked many questions, and said it was “fabulous.”
