Stratton rec program payment info
On May 27, the Stratton-Eustis Selectmen met with the recreation committee and the recreation director to discuss payment guidelines for the Stratton Summer Program. We hope the following information helps clarify all the concerns and questions parents have had recently.
For many years the Stratton Summer Program has offered a free program to all who attended Stratton Elementary School. Many people think that the summer program is affiliated with the school system. The school system does not contribute any funds to support the program. The Town of Eustis, the Town of Coplin and a few local businesses contribute the entire amount for our eight-week program.
Below is a breakdown of the number of kids who attend from each town and how much each town contributes. Most of the kids who attend Stratton school attend our program.
Eustis, 38, $20,000; Coplin, 15, $6,100; Carrabassett Valley, 25, $0; Kingfield, 5, $0; Wyman, 3, $0; Langtown, 2, $0.
We feel it is necessary to ask other towns to contribute some money toward the program if they want to continue to come to our program for free. We recently asked town officials of Carrabassett Valley if they would contribute and we were turned down.
We are hoping in the future that parents can go to their own towns and ask then to fund a portion of this program. Until then, we have decided to charge a fee to all non-residents who attend our program. This includes any non-resident relatives who come to the towns of Coplin and Stratton as well.
The fee for non-residents (CV, Kingfield, Wyman and Langtown) is $50 per week with $35 for siblings or $15 per day. Stratton and Coplin residents are free. Everyone must pay the initial $20 registration fee per child with $10 for siblings.
We have looked into several other area summer camps and we are still the cheapest around. Most offered their residents a price of $75 or more and non-resident camps were $150 or more.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the recreation committee, recreation director or the selectmen of Stratton- Eustis.
Sincerely,
Stratton-Eustis Selectmen
