MTA knocked-out in quarters
SALEM -– The Mt. Abram girls’ tennis team met their goal and made it to the post season with a much improved 9-3 record this season. Finishing sixth in Heal Point standing, they were matched up with a very tough North Yarmouth Academy squad in quarterfinal action.
NYA (11-1) was able to take all but three games in the Class C post season match-up last Friday, June 4.
Monica Hedstrom took over as coach last year and said her players greatly improved. Prior to taking on the coaching duties, the MTA girls’ tennis team was 1- 28 in regular season action over two years. In her fist year, they secured four wins and this year they impressed the Mountain Valley Conference losing only three games during the regular spring season.
“I was proud that they made it to the playoffs and that they were such a good group of girls that worked together,” Hedstrom said.
The MTA coach said she was proud of her girls and the outcome of the season. “Much improved,” she stressed.
NYA went on to beat the undefeated Winthrop 3-2 in the Semi Finals on June 5 and is advancing to the Regional Finals, today, Wednesday, June 9.
