MTA to face challenges on post season diamonds

Abram (9-5) boys’ baseball team hosted a preliminary game against a tough Traip Academy (8-8) team on Tuesday, June 8. The results were beyond the deadline for this issue.

Traip Academy plays their regular season against tough southern Maine Class B schools and other private academies.

If the Roadrunners won, they would be facing second ranked St. Dom’s on their field on Thursday, June 10. Mt. Abram has never seen the looks of this semi-private school. St. Dom’s has won 13 games in the regular season and lost three times. They lost to Jay who MTA beat twice, and lost to Wiscasset and Dirigo. The Cougars of Dirigo man-handled the Roadrunners in two outings and MTA never saw Wiscassett.

If the Roadrunners can get by St. Dom’s they’ll travel to either Livermore Falls who the split their regular season games or Telstar who upset the Roadrunners in the final game of the regular season. The semi-finals are scheduled for June 12 with regional finals on June 15.

The Lady Roadrunners (9-5) holding the fifth seed will travel to fourth ranked Jay (9-6) on June 10 who has been difficult for them this season. Although the Roadrunners and Jay split their regular season games, rumors are stirring the senior three-year starter Alexi Smith with make a return as Jay’s all-star hurler. Smith suffered a leg injury during the preseason which has limited her to the outfield, but reports indicated that she’s ready for the post season. MTA has not seen Smith this season.

If the Roadrunners prevail this Thursday, they’ll face top ranked Telstar (14-0) in a challenging game on June 12. MTA fell to the Rebels 9-0 in the final game of the regular season on May 28.
