Lead off Rolbiecki lands win over Tigers

By David Hart Irregular Staff

Mt. Abram, 11 — Jay, 10

JAY — Leadoff hitter Kylie Rolbiecki bunted her way on in the first inning and when up next and the entire Tiger infield came in as well as the outfield, she smacked the ball over everyone’s head for an RBI double.

Rolbiecki reached four of her five times at bat and scored four of the Roadrunner runs in a fifth ranked Roadrunner win over fourth ranked Jay by the score of 11-10.

Molly McCafferty drew two walks and smacked a double for three runs in the quarterfinal match up last Thursday.

Holding a 5-4 lead though four innings, the Roadrunners took advantage of four walks and a hit-batsman off Jay pitcher Lexii Smith which led to a five-run inning and a 10-4 lead.

Things got interesting in the sixth with the Tigers’ three and four hitters. Ashley Dorey delivered a two RBI double followed by Alexis Blodgett who sent her home with a RBI triple. The Roadrunners found they were then nursing a one-run lead heading into the final frame.

Many Roadrunners came to the game tired with their senior excursion the night before and Rolbiecki said she almost didn’t

play because of sickness over the past week. She was found sitting on the bench between innings, but came through when needed.

MTA was shut down in the final frame with an inning ending double play with a one run lead. Rolbiecki’s slash bunt found the top of her bat and popped out to the pitcher who doubled the runner on first.

McCafferty, who led to the success for MTA as a seven inning everyday pitcher, got the first two batters to pop out to herself in the circle. Jay’s Beth Moore then beat out an infield single and Brittany DiPompo saw a four pitch walk.

With the tying run on second and the winning run of first, McCafferty jammed Alexi Dering for the final popup out fielded again by McCafferty herself.

McCafferty recorded the playoff win fanning one batter of a very good hitting Tiger team.

MTA’s Jillian Withee went two for three on the day with a walk and two RBIs eliminating Jay from the post season.

The Lady Roadrunners went to the semifinals against top ranked Telstar on Saturday, June 12. Telstar advanced in a 5-1 win and will play in the regional finals against Georges Valley.

The Roadrunners (10-6) proved to be contenders in the Western C and made it to the final eight in Class C softball.
