Numerous improvements slated for CV facilities
CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Earlier this month, Town Manager Dave Cota presented the selectmen with the 2010 Work Plan for the various groups and committees in town. The plan as presented at the June 14 selectmen’s meeting is available online on the town’s Web site and is lengthy in terms of the scope of work.
Cota announced that the new library is complete with the final details —painting, paving and landscaping— now done.
The town is awaiting receipt of Federal Aviation Association and State grants for a $350,000 airport expansion project. The project includes up to eight new hangers for lease agreements with private owners. Once started, the project should take approximately 30 days.
Folks will also be busy this summer with construction of the new Nordic Ski Race Loop at the Outdoor Center. Stadium improvements are also planned as well as work on bridges and trails. The cost to rebuild eight to 10 bridges is estimated at $25,000.
Drainage projects will continue this summer at the golf course and over $50,000 will be expended for course improvements and upgrades to the clubhouse.
Improvements to the transfer station and town office will come in the form of drainage work and paving. The town approved balance forward amounts of $28,225 for parking lot improvements for the town office and $37,581 for road upgrades at the transfer station.
A town recreational bridge committee has been formed to see that a bridge is constructed to span the Carrabassett River.
“We have held five meetings and accomplished much in a relatively short time,” Cota explained. The bridge is in the Department of Environmental Protection permit review process. The committee has also sent out requests for structural engineering proposals. The group says it is on track for a November submittal for state grants which could fund 80 percent of the project.
Forest management plans of town owned land will continue this summer. Some harvesting might commence in August or September.
Cota explained that the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce representatives are now occupying the Information Center after improvements were done to that building. Minor details such as signage and other small details are still needed, he explains.
Cota also explained that the selectmen will continue looking into the feasibility of adding a boat landing on the east shore of Flagstaff Lake and will continue looking at a blinking light on the northbound side of Route 27 at the S-turns.
Approximately 17 other projects were listed as potential projects to explore this summer or ongoing issues for town consideration. The complete list is available on the town’s Web site.
