Residents of Highland Plantation join our historical society

This is the second outreach to the residents of Highland Plantation. The members of the Lexington Historical Association had proposed last year that if enough residents of Highland Plantation were interested in joining and combining their closely tied history with ours, that we are willing to officially reorganize as The Lexington-Highland Historical Society.

The purpose would be to gather and preserve historical information, the genealogy of founding and later families, items of historical interest, and other historical facts to help retain the history of the common and closely related communities for future generations.

Current projects include the construction of a “History House” on the corner of Long Falls Dam Road and the Back Road and putting together a cookbook of local recipes. The history house will be used to display items of historical interest and as an educational tool to record and present the local history to the public. Memberships available include individual, family, and business.

This joint venture was proposed last year with only a couple of residents of Highland Plantation displaying an interest. This is another attempt to see if there is enough interest in having Highland Plantation join us, before we officially change our name from an Association to that of a Society.

Residents of Highland Plantation with an interest in actively preserving your history along with Lexington’s, please contact us (Dave or Linda Miller) at 628-3684 by 15 July 2010 (leave a message if no answer).
