(Heidi Murphy photo) KINGFIELD — Kingfield Festival Days is just around the corner and you don’t want to miss it. This weekend of activities was begun in 1979 and is still going strong.

New this year for kids and adults is the Mudmobile, where you can try working with clay or just watch the demos.

The parade starts at noon on Saturday and organizers are looking for volunteers to wear life-size puppet costumes that are part of the Shoestring Theater’s entry. Call Myra at 265-2700 for more information. The theater will also perform a regular sized puppet show under the tent after the parade.

Kingfield’s first ever firemen’s muster will be held Saturday after the parade (need to have the fire trucks in the parade first, noted an organizer).

The “Whatever Floats Parade” is always a fun event, organizers hope more people will enter; this year’s theme is “As American as Rednecks, Hillbillies and your Relatives.” Potential participants are reminded that it is not a timed race; the best floats that can make it to the finish line win the cash prizes.

Atypical Entertainment is back after two years. Jason performed a fantastic juggling and fire-eating show in the past, and this year is joined by his brother.

If you like country & western music, Saturday evening two bands will perform: Bad Penny is back and also Sonny Perry & his band. Perry performed New Years Eve at the American Legion and had rave reviews for his Johnny Cash and Elvis renditions.

There will be food vendors and the beer/wine tent is back, “So bring your dancing shoes or lounge chair and have a good time!” a spokesperson for the festival said.

The programs are out in the local stores, Longfellow’s Restaurant and the town office so folks can plan ahead for all the events they want to attend.

Organizers noted that the events are too numerous to mention in one article.

The Kingfield Festival Days Committee expressed its appreciation to all the local and surrounding businesses, the town office, Poland Spring and all the individuals that have helped them raise the necessary funds so that there is no admission fee for any of the events that take place over the entire weekend.
