Geneva M. Gordon
BINGHAM — Geneva M. Gordon passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, at the Skowhegan hospital.
Geneva was born Sept. 27, 1927, in Bingham, the daughter of Donald and Gladys (Baker) Goff. She attended and graduated from local Bingham schools and continued her education at a secretarial school in Boston. She married the love of her life, Douglas H. Gordon, on May 2, 1948; they made their home in Bingham and raised four loving children. Throughout her adult life she worked at several local Bingham businesses, retiring from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife. An active participant in the community, she was a member of the Eastern Star, Goodwill Club, Grange, American Legion Auxiliary and a Girl Scout leader.
Geneva enjoyed knitting, needlework, word puzzles, and writing poems for fun and family. Always keeping everyone full, she was famous for her delicious cooking, and had an outstanding reputation for her baked beans and canned goods. Our mother had a quick wit and good sense of humor. She especially enjoyed gatherings with her special group of “girls” from her Bingham school days. Many happy days were spent with family and friends at Chase Pond and Pleasant Pond. She was always ready to go for a ride or short trip.
Geneva was a lifelong resident of Bingham until moving to Bangor in 2004, where she lived at Sunbury Village until 2008.
Geneva is survived by and will be missed dearly by her children, Mary and her husband, Shawn Small of Milford, Donald and his wife, Gail, of Bangor, Martha and her husband, David Hunt of Fairfield, and Wade and his wife, Ann, of Kingfield; grandchildren, who were all very special to her, Shannon, Cindy, Gordon, Rob, Jessica, Kortney, Jamie, Nathan, Sarah, Joshua, Samantha, Chris and Emily; six very special great-grandchildren; several cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; sister, Rowena Giberson; and brother, Allen Goff.
Visitation was held Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Giberson Funeral Home in Bingham.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Bingham Congregational Church with the Rev. Nathan T. Richards officiating. Interment followed at Bingham Village Cemetery.
A special thank-you to the caring staff at Maple Crest Living Center in Madison, which was Geneva’s home for the past 15 months.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Bangor St., Augusta, Maine 04330.
