Soccer camp returns to MTA
SALEM — In its eighth year under Coach Darren Allen, under three different names or thereabouts, summer soccer camp returns through the Western Maine Youth Soccer Association for ages eight through 14.
“This year our staff will include Monica Hedstrom, Carrie Abbott, Emma James, Deseree Abbott and some members of the MTA boys and girls teams,” Allen said.
Starting on July 12 through 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mt. Abram High School, the camp is open to all students.
This day camp is designed to build basic soccer skills and game strategies while making new friends and building bonds between schools. Campers will be expected to work hard and have fun, the brochure reads.
According to Allen, the price is still the cheapest around for the amount of soccer campers get. If participants paid on time the cost was $60 for the week. A $10 late fee is assessed if paid after July 2.
The camp has always resulted great numbers over the years. Allen expressed gratitude to the WMYSA registrar and president. Allen’s wife, Angel, developed the Web site which allows people to sign-up online. His president Jim Logan has given them the leadership they need in a new club, Allen explained.
