RANGELEY — The Rangeley Lakes Regional School District, RSU #78, held a board of education meeting June 9, and recently released the minutes to that meeting.

Board members present included Jennifer Farmer, Barbara Burgess, Pamela Ellis, Nicholas Gumprecht, Rick Godaire, Virginia Nuttall, Laura Haley, Carol Hall and Harold Schaetzle. William Roy was absent.

Others present at the meeting included: Brian Foster, Superintendent; Sherry Connally, Principal; several staff members; and several members of the public.

Following the Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance, the minutes of the previous meeting, May 11 were accepted unanimously.

Superintendent Foster informed the board that EcoVenture requested the use of the Rangeley bus for the summer camp program. He noted that the cost of the driver and fuel is paid by camp.

Foster also reviewed the MSLN summer upgrade proposal for the fiber optic cable installation, and the end of year transfer of funds required between cost centers.

Principal Connally informed the board of the weeklong Infinite Campus training.

She also invited a member of the board to join the Response to Intervention committee to continue work on the plan for 2012. The committee meets the third Monday of the month.

Connally discussed that the last day of school would be Monday, June 14, which would be a noon dismissal. She noted that the playoff games with Greenville and Buckfield would be the following Friday.

Virginia Nuttall reported on the recent Technology Committee meeting. The board reviewed the Technology Plan as well as the proposal for the installation of the fiber optic cable.

The board then engaged in a discussion of tuition rates for non-RSU towns, and Nuttall reviewed the tuition rate formula the board adopted when developing the budget.

Conversations concerning tuition that were held with the district’s attorney and the Department of Education were heard and discussed.

Several members of the RSU board and the public spoke to the need for everyone to pay their fair share. The board also noted that members would like to see Rangeley Plantation become a member of the RSU.

The tuition rate of $15,000 for non-RSU students for 2010-11 school year was accepted by a vote of 7-2, with Gumprecht and Nuttall against.

It was also voted give Rangeley Plantation two years notice that RSU #78 would no longer accept students as of Sept. 1, 2012. Nuttall was the only dissenter.

Gumprecht, Haley and Burgess were unanimously appointed to the Rangeley Lakes Regional School District RSU #78 Finance Committee.

The board also agreed to authorize Rangeley Lakes Regional School District RSU #78 to enter into an agreement with Camden National Bank for financial services.
