OUT & ABOUT WITH LAURA
Ever since the Stanley Museum was started in 1981 when only a handful of people showed up in the basement of now the Camden National Bank, I had never had the chance in all those years to ride in a Stanley steam car. Shame on you Sue... but it really wasn’t her fault. I was always too busy taking photos and writing to take the time to “play.” Well, when I told the Hardurg family from Bloomington, Ill. this story, Ron Hardurg said, “I’m unhooking our 1910 Stanley and you are going for a ride.” And what a ride it was; all around town at 35 miles an hour with the steam pouring out. Howard and I were having the time of our lives that Thursday night. Friday that car sold at the auction for $140,000; what a thrill to be the last person to ride in the car before the new owners from Florida took it away.
Now let’s see, what have I got left to do... I thought it was exciting enough to ride for three hours each with Franklin County Sheriff David Simpson, State Trooper Scott Nichols and United State Border Patrolman Dana Cunningham; maybe I should jump out of an airplane (riding with Ron Moody once to a bad accident in Phillips was a little like that). Speaking of our famous former police officer, I talked with Moody this past week trying to fill him up with all the gossip.

The same with the family lobster party on Saturday at Earland Tripp’s in Coplin Plantation.

There were lots of prizes and finally even Claire Gagne won after threatening the caller!
