Joseph ‘Joe’ Leo Guyette

1929-2010 — He loved cribbage, dominoes, league bowling, wintering in Florida and boating and fishing on Porter Lake

FARMINGTON — Joseph “Joe” Leo Guyette, 81, of Sweets Pond Lane in Strong, died peacefully Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Franklin Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Woonsocket, R.I. Feb. 20, 1929 the eldest child of Leopold and Beatrice DesFosses Guyette. In June 1960, he married Eleanor Springer of Harrison, N.J. who died in 1987. He later married Nedra Yahn of New Vineyard and retired to their home in Strong in 2002.

Joe was a retired “Trucker” and a member of New England Teamster’s #251, New York #707 and New Jersey #560 having driven for 30 years. He served his country in the United States Army Air Force in Alaska from 1947- 1950 and then again in the United States Air Force in 1950- 1953 in England. He and his first wife, Eleanor, were very active in the Elks BPOE #2359 of Smithfield, R.I. and locally. He was also active in Rhode Island State politics in the 1980s, as a Democratic Campaign Coordinator. Joe will be remembered by his family and friends for his love of cribbage, dominoes, league bowling, wintering in Brooksville, Fla. and enjoying boating and fishing on Porter Lake.

He is survived by his wife Nedra Yahn Guyette; and his son Roland and his wife, Cheryl of Millville, Mass.; two grandsons, Eric and Christopher Guyette, and one greatgrandson, Cayden all of Massachusetts; two brothers, Robert Guyette and his wife, Cathy, and Roger Guyette; his beloved Aunt, Irene DesFosses LaForest; five stepchildren, James Yahn and his wife, Pat, of Phillips, Janet Dyroff and her husband, Michael, of Topsham, Walter Yahn and his wife, Joanne, of Sharon Conn, and MaryJane Brown of Ft. Collins. Colo. and Carol Liptai of North Lake, Ill. and their families; several grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife Eleanor her son Stephen Liptai and his Uncles Ernest DesFosses and Frances Guyette.

A memorial service will be held Friday July 23, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Bible Church in New Vineyard.
