All-Star teams advance to regional tourney
FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Babe Ruth Softball League announced recently that its 10U and 12U All-Star teams (The Franklin County Stars) won their respective Babe Ruth Softball State tournaments the previous weekend and advanced to play in the Northeast Regional Tournaments later this month.
The 10U team defeated Standish Saturday, July 10 to advance to the regional tournament being held in Pittsfield, Mass. July 30, 31 and Aug. 1. The team members of the 10U All-Star team are: Danielle Anderson, Kassadie Barker, Aricka Corson, Makayla Dyke, Allie Emery, Sierra Fay, Kayleigh Fontaine, Shayla Harris, Chelsea Kane, Hannah Minns, Alora Ross, Summer Ross, Risa Rowe. The coaches are: Chuck Wallace, Sabrina Keach and Heidi Wallace.
The 12U team, coached by Lisa Dube and Mike Farrington, soundly defeated Gorham and Standish last weekend to advance to the regional being held in Lancaster, N.H. July 23, 24 and 25. Team members of the 12U All-Star team are: Abby Brackley, Addie Brinkman, Erin Doiron, Hailey Farrington, Taylor France, Lauren Guppy, Brandi Harris, Makenzie Harris, Caitlyn Kane, Britlyn Karkos, Hannah Leclair, Sarah McGhee, Samantha Reynolds, Hattie Rosenberg and Olivia Ryan.
The winner of the 12U Northeast regional will advance to the Babe Ruth Softball World Series in Alachua, Fla. Aug. 7 to 14.
The league sponsored 10 teams in a 12-game schedule beginning in early May. The season concluded with the Cougar Cubs of Farmington winning the league championship 11-10 over the Farmington Panthers. The All- Stars were selected from the 10 12U teams in the league.
Since its inception the league has included teams from Rangeley, Phillips, Strong, Kingfield, Farmington, Wilton and New Sharon. The league also sponsors a Rookie League (5-8 year olds) that plays a 10-game schedule with teams from Jay AYS.
The Franklin County Babe Ruth Softball League was organized in the spring of 2009 and has operated successfully for two seasons, providing opportunities for more than 250 local girls, ages 5 to 12, to play organized softball. The league is affiliated with the international Babe Ruth League Inc. program, the premier softball program for youth, whose headquarters are in Trenton, N.J.
